This was a hard piece for me to bring myself to complete, with each name my heart felt heavier and heavier and heavier. It humbled me to think that I still have my life and have been given gifts in which I can use to stand for something. Stand for truth. I finished this piece on June 9th 2020, and went on to read a chapter of a book titled “ADAMANT IN HATE”... here are two passages that spoke to me and correlate to this piece.

“Loving and abhorring are both conscious choices. Loving everyone is hard, but with God it is possible. Loving everything is disingenuous and actually impossible. In our day, evil is unavoidable. I get that. But this doesn’t mean we allow ourselves to be overwhelmed and intimidated into silence. This is not the time for neutrality.”

“We can no longer smile at evil from a safe distance. We can’t let it catch our eye or allow ourselves to linger in its presence. We cannot be quiet because we don’t want to cause trouble. When it comes to protecting love, we cannot be silent. We cannot wear a mask of acceptance.”
